Obituary

Viola Jaranson, 83, died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.


Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Alemayehu Tulu officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 4 " 7 PM, Monday, December 11, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to service at the church, Monday.

Viola Joyce Jorgenson was born January 5, 1923 at Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Ole and Clara (Flateland) Jorgenson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. The family moved to Thief River Falls in 1930. Viola attended school in Thief River Falls and Newfolden, graduating from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls in 1940.

During the war, she moved to Seattle, WA, where she entered the work force. After the war, she returned to Thief River Falls and began working at Union State Bank as a teller.

On September 16, 1948, Viola was united in marriage to John S. Jaranson at Thief River Falls, MN, where the couple made their home. She also worked as a secretary at the Vocational School, Thief River Falls and worked there many years. Viola then went to work for the Employment Office, from which she retired in mid-1970s.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls. Viola and John enjoyed camping in the summers with their dogs, Ruff and Kim. They also enjoyed the fourteen winters they spent in Arizona. They liked to watch sports on TV, especially the Twins and Vikings. Viola liked to read, crochet and visit with relatives and friends.

Viola is survived by brother, Ellsworth (Octavia) Jorgenson, Thief River Falls, MN; nephews: Daniel (Julie) Jorgenson, Minnetonka, MN and Thomas E. Jorgenson, Bloomington, MN and many relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by husband, John on July 3, 2000 and parents.
