Violet Bendickson, 91, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls, MN.
Violet May Farrington was born May 7, 1914 in Chatfield, MN to Sam and Evelyn (Tompson) Farrington. They moved to the Oklee area in Equality Township near the Clearwater church in about 1920 and Sam proceeded to farm and work for the local elevator. She attended a local school and graduated from the 8th grade.
Vi married Selmer Bendickson, November 29, 1933. They resided with Selmers mother and rented a farm near River Valley until they purchased their farm in Mayfield Township of Pennington County in 1941. Vi moved to Thief River Falls in 1965 after the death of her husband, Selmer. She worked at the Land O Lakes turkey processing plant and also held several other part time jobs before joining the housekeeping department of Northwest Medical Center in November of 1966, where she worked until May 1, 1997 when she retired at the age of 83.
Vi was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, where she was very active. She enjoyed playing cards and games at Skylite Apartments, where she lived from 1998 until moving to Greenleaf Assisted Living in August of 2005. She was very pragmatic, honest, fair and ethical.
Violet is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Orren and Odette Bendickson, Thief River Falls, MN; 2 grandsons, Stephen and wife Rebecca, Terre Haute, IN and Brian and wife, Lynn, Fargo, ND; and 3 great grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer in Indiana and Sage of Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by husband, Selmer; 3 brothers, Richard, Leo and Luverne Farrington and 4 sisters, Myrtle Hatleli, Daisy Radack, Lilly Johnson and Verna Lawler.
