Violet Gagner, 90, died on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Riverview Health in Crookston, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday at the church.
Violet Marie Bourgeois was born on April 22, 1921 in Baudette, MN the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Lee) Bourgeois. When Violet was 11 years old her mother passed away and awhile later she was raised by her step-mother, Doris Belke. Violet attended schools at Carp, MN and Baudette, MN. She went to work for Family Home Care.
On March 5, 1940, Violet was united in marriage to Thomas W. Gagner at Baudette, MN and the couple made their home in Terrebonne Township where they raised their family of ten. Vi was a farmers wife and homemaker. Thomas passed away in 1980. In June 2002, Vi moved into Red Lake Falls where she has since resided.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, church activities, and in her later years, enjoyed frequent stops at the casino.
Violet was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne and following its closing became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. She enjoyed Bible studies in Brooks, MN for many years; and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Violet is survived by her children, Beverly Truran of Brooklyn Center, MN, Patricia (Gene) Proulx of Mentor, MN, Sandra Gagner of Mentor, MN, Mary Jo (Jim) Anderson of Thief River Falls, MN, Mark (Dianna) Gagner of Casselton, ND, Gregory (Michelle) Gagner of Mentor, MN, Brian (Suzan) Gagner of Mentor, MN and Kenneth (Jill) Gagner of Morris, MN; daughter-in-law, Angie Gagner of Forest Lake, MN; son-in-law, Ray Coleman of Lake Vermillion, MN; 26 grandchildren; 20 great grand children; brothers and sisters, Josephine Soltis of Segvin, WA, Emery Bourgeois of Baudette, MN, Mary Phyllis Behnke of St. Paul, MN, Amy Klockenbeck of Paynesville, MN; half sisters and brothers, Carol Nelson of Brooklyn Center, MN, Jeanette Book of Minneapolis, MN, Judy Bourgeois of Minneapolis, MN and Jerome (June) Bourgeois of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; parents; children, Gail Coleman and Sidney Gagner; son-in-law, Bill Truran; sister, Pearl Fick; and brother, Francis Bourgeois.
