Violet "Vi" Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, age 89, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association at www.ASHA.org Violet Vivian Johnson was born June 17, 1926 at Middle River, MN on the family farm, the daughter of Arthur Calmer and Bertha (Hanson) Peterson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed in that faith at First Lutheran Church, Middle River. She attended Honor Bright Country School through the 8th grade and attended Middle River High School. She worked as a waitress when she was 17 and then at the pool hall where she was the resident pool shark. On March 9, 1947, Vi was united in marriage to Arnie Johnson at First Lutheran Church, Middle River. The couple made their home on the Johnson Farm until that fall, when they moved to Thief River Falls where they have continued to reside. She and Arnie owned and operated Custom Motors, an automotive repair business, including selling and servicing motorcycles and snowmobiles in Thief River Falls. Arnie managed service and performed the mechanical work, while Vi did the accounting. Vi was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN and a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, playing Bingo, puzzles and games of every kind. She worked crosswords every day, liked to play hand held games and watch games shows on TV, but most especially she enjoys spending time with family. Survivors include two children: Steven and wife Jan Johnson, Lino Lakes, MN and Kerry Johnson-Morud and husband Phillip Morud, Thief River Falls, MN; 4 grandchildren, Christopher (Tara) Johnson, Charlie (Tonya) Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Chad (Erin) Johnson 6 great grandchildren, Keegan Johnson, Alex Johnson, Elise Johnson, Livia Johnson, Madeline Johnson, Gavin Johnson; sister, Delores Leach; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by husband, Arnie in 1993; sister, Pearl (Ingmar) Borg, and brothers, Ervie "Buddy" Peterson and Ames (Betty) Peterson.
