Virgil Wold, 84, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will follow at Landstad Cemetery rural Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday at the church.
Virgil G. Wold was born on January 3, 1927 on the family farm in Sanders Township, Pennington County, MN the youngest of seven children born to Adolph and Octavia (Bredeson) Wold. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended Oak Grove #149 Country School in Sanders Township.
He entered into service with the United States Army at the age of 18 and was stationed in Japan during the occupation. Virgil was Honorably Discharged and returned to the family farm.
On November 8, 1947 Virgil was united in marriage to Dorothy C. Hanson at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church; and to this union two terrific sons were born, Thomas and Dale.
Virgil started working with Thief River Grocery, Nash Finch Company, Nash Coffee and then Folgers Coffee. The next step in his career was as owner of Sweet Clover Dairy in East Grand Forks, MN. He finished his career with L.B. Hartz Foods in Thief River Falls, retiring in 1989.
Virgil was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion Post, VFW Post and the DAV. Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson and helping on his sons farm.
Survivors include sons, Tom (Kaylynn) Wold of Thief River Falls, MN and Dale (Wanda) Wold of East Grand Forks, MN; grandson, Matt Wold; special niece, Kristy (Wold) LittleSun of Oklahoma; sister, Mildred Peterson of Thief River Falls; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wold, Jean Wold, Lenore Kraemer all of Thief River Falls; brother-in-law, Wally Lane of Moorhead, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on April 6, 2008; parents; brothers, Francis, Bernard, Vernon, Selmer and Alvin; sisters-in-law, Pearl Wold and Gladys Lane; and brothers-in-law, Norman Peterson and Joe Kraemer.
