Wallace Holthusen, 82, died on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 6, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt presiding. Burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery, Thorholt, MN.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday.

Wallace Arden Holthusen was born July 20, 1928 to Herbert and Alvina (Magnusen) Holthusen in Grygla, MN. He was baptized and confirmed. He grew up in the Thorholt area and attended two different country schools.

Wally was united in marriage to Lila Doris Hagen on December 31, 1947 in Thief River Falls, MN. They made their home in rural Thorholt for most of their married life. Wally worked logging and with Holthusen Construction with his dad for many years. Wally enjoyed operating heavy equipment, especially a drag line. He and his wife Lila also farmed for many years together. For the past year and a half, they have lived in Grygla.

Those who knew Wally knew he was strong willed and independent. He had a straight forward approach and said what was on his mind. He had a great sense of humor and often had the room laughing. He was well known to family and friends for his "Wallyisms". He was definitely one of a kind. During his retirement years he enjoyed going to his trailer and fishing at Springsteel and spending time with friends and family. He also became a Twins fan. He was instrumental in starting the Fourtown - Grygla Sportman's Club and served as president for many years. He loved to travel and just go driving around. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Grygla and the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls.

Wally is survived by his wife Lila, Thief River Falls, MN, 3 children: Davis, Thief River Falls, MN, Valerie (Dave) Zavoral, Grygla, MN, Blair (Denise) Holthusen, Grygla, MN; 10 grandchildren: Cole (Terri Mercil) Holthusen, Derek (Lacey Solberg) Holthusen, Jessica (Jason) Bodin, Chris Zavoral, Stephanie Zavoral, Anthony (Miranda) Holthusen, Aaron (Molly Hanson) Holthusen, Ashely (Justin Cameron) Holthusen, Krystal Holthusen, Kylie (Chris Raymond) Holthhusen, 7 great grandchildren: Cameron Holthusen, Lecora, Alayna, and Rylan Bodin, Shelby and Alora Holthusen, and Bailey Cameron.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents, one son Paul in 1997, a still born baby, and a brother Arlen Holthusen.
