Wallace Ptacek, 79, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 while shoveling snow at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Wallace Melvin Ptacek was born on August 5, 1932 to Albert and Mary (Hruby) Ptacek in Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up in Silverton Township east of Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. After graduating, he lived on the farm with his parents and helped run the farm. He worked for Pennington County Road Department for a few years and then worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for over 30 years working road construction in the summer and driving snow plow through the winter. He retired in 1998. Since Walmart in Thief River Falls opened, Wally has worked as a Walmart greeter.
Wally enjoyed traveling around the country side taking in the scenery. It was important for him to keep watch over the fields. In the summer time he would be seen searching through rummage sales. He served in the Minnesota Army National Guard in the mid 1950s. He was a kind man, who worked all of his life to make an honest days pay. He watched out for his sister Louise and helped her daily.
He is survived by one sister Louise Breznay, Thief River Falls, MN and brother Harold (Ione) Ptacek, Babbitt, MN, nieces and nephews: Eugene (Karla) Ptacek, Alexandria, MN, Gary Housker, Thief River Falls, MN, Ernest (Sheri) Breznay, Detroit Lakes, MN, Marie Breznay, Thief River Falls, MN, Wayne (Noi) Ptacek, Fairbanks, Alaska, Renee (Frank) Stemper, Becker, MN, Dennis (Becky) Ptacek, Thief River Falls, MN, Wanda (Lew) Wood, Fairbanks, Alaska, Brad Ptacek, Minneapolis, MN, Denise (Jeff) Cordell, OR, and Brett Ptacek, Minneapolis, MN, several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Raymond, Archie, niece Margie Housker.
