Obituary

Wallace Vagle, 93 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family by his side.

The service to celebrate Wally's life will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and one hour prior to the service on Wedneday. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Wallace Lowell Vagle was born October 31, 1928, at Kittson Memorial Hospital Hallock, MN. He was the eleventh child born to Martin and Ellen (Dufenberg) Vagle. He was raised on the family farm near Lake Bronson, MN and attended Lake Bronson High School, graduating in 1946. Following high school, he worked for Kiene Farms in Kennedy for four years.

Wallace married Muriel Joan Enquist February 10, 1951 at Maria Lutheran Church in Kennedy, MN.

On May 3, 1951 Wallace entered the service with the United States Army. After basic training he was shipped to Tokyo, Japan. Here he took mechanic training school to work on tanks and other track vehicles. From there he was shipped to Korea where he worked as a mechanic on vehicles being used by the artillery until his term of duty ended in May 1953. Wallace was honorably discharged May 3, 1953.

In 1955 they moved to Thief River Falls where they raised their family. Wallace worked for Lind Motors Supply and Taxerass Implement before he went to work for Wilson Bros Co. in 1957. He worked as store manager and in 1972 he went out on the road as outside salesman until he retired in 1991. He later went back to work part-time at Wilson Bros until 2000 when health problems forced him to retire for good.

Wally was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls where he served a term on the church council. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 117 of Thief River Falls. Wally was privileged to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC.

Wally and Muriel enjoyed fishing, camping, watching basketball games and enjoyed time with their family and friends. Wally especially enjoyed deer hunting with his son David and brother Carl and all of Wally's nephews. He also enjoyed doing woodwork and making different items for his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Wally was very proud to care for the Vagle Family Cemetery north of Lake Bronson.

He is preceded in death by wife Muriel in 2013; sisters, Mabel, Orpha, Alva and Margaret; brothers, Melvin, Carl, Earl, Arnold, Russel and Forest; grandsons-in-law, Greg Pudlick and Blair Klamar.

Survivors include children, Ellen (Alan) Anton of Stephen MN, David (Irene) Vagle of Alexandria, MN, and Nancy (Hal) Harbott of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Matt Anton of Ramsey, MN, Sarah (Mike) Berg of Stephen, MN, Trisha (Brian Green) Kostrzewski of Thief River Falls, MN, Katie (Brian Carr) Harbott of Lindstrom, MN, Cari (Danni) Jarshaw of Newfolden, MN, Leah (Chris) Knapton of Rice, MN, Kelley (Scott) Mikkelson of Alexandria, MN; great-grandchildren, Blaine Kostrzewski, Braedon and Benjamin Carr, Tuff, Roczen and Lennix "Lenni" Jarshaw, Rylan and Ellie Klamar, Hailey and Braden Berg, Avaree, Reese and Myles Knapton, Nora, Louise and William Mikkelson; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Veterans Honor Flight of Minnesota/North Dakota.
