Wallace Wally Wiskow, 69, died on Monday, December 18, 2006 at Lakeland Health Center Hospital in Baudette, MN.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, December 22, 2006 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Greg Schram officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Wallace Wally Dale Wiskow was born on April 4, 1937 in Badger, MN, the son of Walter and Cora (McFarlane) Wiskow. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Klondike Lutheran Church and grew up in Strathcona, MN, on the family farm. Wally attended school in Greenbush, graduating from Greenbush High School in 1955. Following high school he lived in Silver Bay, MN, where he worked in the mines, then moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1957 and worked at General Mills.
Wally was united in marriage to Lola Rustan on October 25, 1958 in Thief River Falls. The couple lived in Minneapolis for a few years and then moved to Thief River Falls in 1960, where he worked at O and M Elevator. In 1967, he started Wally's Soil Service, which he ran and operated until he received an offer from Northrup King Company. He was employed as a Territory Manager for over 23 years, retiring in 1993. He was co owner of Lola's Hearing Aid Center in Thief River Falls. Wally has farmed and cut CRP acreage for the past years.
He enjoyed fishing, including ice fishing, and hunting deer and grouse. He also enjoyed farming, driving tractor, snowmobiling, and 4-wheeling. He treasured spending time with his family and grandchildren, and the time at his hunting land and cabin near Strathcona. He was an avid John Deere Memorabilia collector.
He was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, where he had served as a trustee. He was also a member of Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Northrup King Retirees, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Wally is survived by his wife, Lola of Thief River Falls, MN; two children: Duane (Tanya) Wiskow of Breezy Point, MN and Deb (Jeff) McCarthy of Baxter, MN; two grandchildren: Sean McCarthy of Baxter, MN and Kara (Tom) Carluccio of Minnetonka, MN; one great grandchild, Izabelle Rose Carluccio of Minnetonka, MN; one sister, Viola (Harley) Gilthvedt of Auburn, WA; three brothers: Lyle (Millie) Wiskow of Baudette, MN, LeRoy (Annette) Wiskow of Silver Bay, MN and twin brother Walter (Elinor) Wiskow of Wadena, MN; sister in law Lucille Wiskow, of Strathcona, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora Wiskow; and one brother, Cordell Wiskow.
