Walter Morehouse, 77, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 25, 2004 at Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Wesley Langaas officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM, Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Walter Lee Morehouse was born July 5, 1927 to Leon Earl Morehouse and Martha Jane (Lamb) Morehouse in Elkwood Township, Roseau County, MN. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith. Walter moved with his parents to Warroad, MN in 1930 and to Thief River Falls in 1935, where he attended Knox School and Lincoln High School until entering the Navy, September 7, 1943 and discharged, July 5, 1947. His Boot Training was at Farragut, ID, then to San Diego Receiving Ship, Pearl Harbor, Tulagi, Marianas and Okinawa, Japan. He served on the U.S.S. Eliot and U.S.S. Buttner. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific and Area Medal. After the war he returned to Thief River Falls. He moved to Superior, WI, where he worked for Reed Marell.

On September 19, 1948, Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Van de Streek at Tarna Lutheran Church, St. Hilaire, MN. Walt started work at Gamble Robinson, June 1, 1948 as a warehouseman, truck driver and salesman until February 1969. He then worked for the School District as janitor until April 14, 1970. April 15, 1970, he worked for the State of Minnesota at Northland Community College as plant maintenance engineer until his retirement in March 1990.

Walter was a member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, served on the church council and sang in the choir, American Legion and VFW Posts of Thief River Falls. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and small repairs. He did carpentry on his house and most building and repair, he did himself. The couple enjoyed their lake home on Long Point from 1966-1997.

Survived by wife, Dorothy, Thief River Falls, MN and 5 nieces and 3 nephews.

Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Inez Berggren and Blanche Kooyer-Schiefert and 2 nephews.
