Walter Quam, 85, died on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in Reiner Township, Pennington County, MN, due to an automobile accident.
Walter Alvin Quam was born on October 23, 1918 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Ole and Clara (Hoyum) Quam. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Lundwood Country School in Reiner Township. Walter attended Correspondence School before attending Dunwoody Technical Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He raised dairy cows in his younger years, having a herd of 40 cows. Walter entered the United States Army in 1945 and was Honorably Discharge in 1947.
Walter worked in Alaska for 30 years, where he was a mechanic on heavy equipment, and a dragline operator. He moved back to Goodridge and farmed. Walter and Galen Quam broke up land and worked together for several years.
Walter loved to visit and was a faithful visitor of his sister, Myrtle and was a member of the Operators Engineers, Local 302 in Seattle, WA.
Walter is survived by one brother, Lewis (Dorothy) Quam of Goodridge, MN; two sisters: Myrtle Olson of Thief River Falls, MN and Lyla Krosch of Blue Earth, MN; numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers: Albert, Oscar, Morris and Carl.
Military honors by the VFW and American Legion of Grygla.
