Obituary

Wayne Konickson, 68, of Grygla, MN died on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Rena Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearwater Cemetery, Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, MN. Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2012 from 5-8 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday. Wayne Leroy Konickson was born on October 25, 1943 to Henry "Hank" and Alice (Arlt) Konickson in Thief River Falls, MN. He was the middle child of three boys, with older brother Gerald and younger brother Ron. He grew up on the rural family farm where he learned about life and mischief. During his growing up years, he enjoyed his cousins and they have remained close throughout his lifetime. He attended school in St. Hilaire through the 8th grade and then graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. Wayne was united in marriage to Carol Marie Arnold on January 27, 1962 at Plummer, MN. To this union three children were born, Vicki, Mike, and Janelle. The couple made their home in Minneapolis, MN and Denver, CO area and then returned to Plummer where they raised their family. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1988. While living in Colorado he worked at Dow-Key, and when he returned to Minnesota he worked for Arctic Enterprises from 1968 through 1995. He loved Arctic Cat snowmobiles. He loved racing them and building them better. He took great pride in Arctic Cat and they were his second family. In 1987, Wayne and Carol found a special place in the woods of Fourtown, MN. They and their family built a wonderful retreat. Together they enjoyed snowmobiling and ATV trail riding. Carol died on October 24, 1995. Wayne then moved to his retreat in Fourtown. Wayne was blessed to meet Marie Anderson and they were married on August 18, 2001. They lived and made a beautiful home at "the cabin." Wayne was honored to be dad and grandpa to Marie's family. Together they enjoyed traveling and gardening. Wayne enjoyed woodworking and would build crafts and furniture. He enjoyed his yearly fishing trips with his buddies. He also liked hunting. He was a member of the Fourtown-Grygla Sportsman's Club, where he served as president for many years. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, the Grygla Lions, and Grygla Senior Meals. He is survived by his wife Marie Konickson, Grygla, MN, three children Vicki (Rick) Stokke, Thief River Falls, Mike (Barb) Konickson, Thief River Falls, MN, Janelle (Chad) Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN, seven grandchildren: Haeli (Zach) Gerardy, Morgan Stokke, Alaina Stokke, Holden, Wyatt, and Ellie Nelson, step children: Steve Anderson, Grygla, MN, Denise (Shannon) Ostby, Grygla, MN, Scott (Gwen) Anderson, Sartell, MN, Tim (Mary) Anderson, Warroad, MN, Sherri (Rodney) Hagen, Grygla, MN, step grandchildren: Alex (Stacy) Anderson, Cory (Renae) Ostby, Jason Woods, Keesha (Nathan) Gast, Tabatha Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Adam Anderson, Greg Anderson, Geoff (Steph) Larson, Justyne (Kevin) Larson, Dayle Larson, Shalin Anderson, three step great grandchildren Torii Anderson and Lyrick Larson, Kellen Wagner, one brother Ron Konickson, sister in law Arlys Konickson, sister in law Linda Arnold, brother in law Ron Arnold, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife Carol, his parents, his brother Gerald and nephew Kurt Konickson.
