Gordon Saul, 83, died on Friday, May 18, 2007 at his home in rural Grygla, MN.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Willard Gordon Saul was born on November 7, 1923 to Willard and Signe (Carlson) Saul in Moorhead MN. As a young boy he moved with his family to Cass Lake, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He logged and trucked with his brother Wayne. He worked in the ship yards in California. Returning to Cass Lake he started working for the State of Minnesota Division of Forestry in 1953. He was stationed at Bagley where he met his wife. He was united in marriage to Delores Darlene Walker at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN by Pastor Victor Averbo. They moved to Grygla, MN in 1958 where he was the District Forester. He was on the Grygla Volunteer Fire Department, served as treasurer and president of the church council at Grace Lutheran, Boy Scout Leader, helped build the Grygla Park, taught snowmobile training and was a Lion member. He cut all the logs at Alton Walkers farm at Bagley for their log home. He enjoyed trout fishing in Canada, deer hunting, and his large gardens and giving vegetables to his friends and playing cards. He retired from the DNR in 1989. After his retirement, he worked for Emmett McDonagh, Grant & Gary Satre.
Gordy is survived by his wife Delores, Grygla, MN; daughter Valerie (Craig) Bail, Burbank, WA; son Wayne (Phyllis) Saul, Warroad, MN; 3 grandchildren, Dylan, TJ, and Ali Saul, 3 nieces Kathy Molash, Barbara Steffner, Debra Fackrell, 1 nephew Dale Brunett, 7 godchildren: Vicki Fisher, Trudy Walby, Janice Rinkenberger, Tammy Drangstviet, Kevin, Alyssa, and Lydia Cedergren, and mans best friend and Gordys body guard "Samdog."
Gordy was preceded in death by his parent, sister Venita Burnetle, 1 brother Wayne Saul, and a daughter in law Sarah Saul.
The forestry furnished the tree by the urn, it will be planted in the church yard in memory of Gordy because he always brought the Christmas tree for the church. The cremation box was made by Floyd Neuschwander.
