William Leo Hawkyard, 83, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Service.

William Leo Hawkyard was born November 22, 1923 at Longview, WA, the son of Leo Frank and Alma (Locken) Hawkyard. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. He attended Hallock, MN high school and worked on the family farm. He also attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA. In 1944, William entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country until 1945, when he received his honorable discharge.

On March 23, 1959, William was united in marriage to Maria Teresa Aguirre. He worked as an electrician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA from 1960-1984. He also held employment with Standard Oil in Saudi Arabia and served with the United States Atomic Energy Commission in the Marshall Islands.

William held membership with the Thief River Falls, VFW, American Legion and Eagles.

Survived by children, Edgar (MaryLou) Hawkyard of Concord, CA; and David Hawkyard of Mexico City, Mexico; 2 grandchildren, Philip Edgar Hawkyard and Katherine Elizabeth Hawkyard; a brother Glen (Mavis) Hawkyard of Minneapolis, MN; also the mother of his children, Maria Hawyard. He is also survived by his special friend Velma Kathman of Thief River Falls and her family.

William is preceded in death by parents; grandparents: maternal, John and Anna (Anderson) Locken and paternal, William and Elizabeth (Wright) Hawkyard and one sister Joyce Johnson.
