Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 " 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Phil Schmidt, officiating,
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service in the church.
William Bill Reed, 79, died Thursday, August 31, 2006 at SCCI Hospital, Fargo, ND.
William Clifford Reed was born May 5, 1927 at Thief River Falls, MN, the son of John and Fannie (Zavoral) Reed. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. Bill attended school in Thief River Falls and always enjoyed celebrating class reunions with the class of 1945.
Bill served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Trenton and USS Thomas Jefferson in the Pacific Theatre and was Honorably Discharged on August 19, 1946.
On September 15, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Donna Grovum in Thief River Falls. The couple continued to make Thief River Falls their home. Bill worked for the Soo Line Railroad starting in 1944 in Thief River Falls, and retired as a car foreman in 1984.
He held an American Legion and VFW Post memberships in Thief River Falls. He was a past Post Commander in the VFW. He was also a member of the Elks and Eagles Club, and a member of the Soo Line Veterans. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, spending time with his friends at the VFW and American Legion. Bill also enjoyed his time at his cabin Near Grygla, MN and his cabin at Pine Lake, MN, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family.
Bill is survived by wife, Donna, Thief River Falls, MN; sons, Gary Reed, Thief River Falls, MN and Scott Reed, Grand Forks, ND; 6 grandchildren, Meghan (Mike) Finch, Casey, Steven, Wyatt, Brett (Ashley) and Sidney Reed; one great-granddaughter, Hailie Reed; brother, Bob (Patsy) Reed, Thief River Falls, MN and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents, sisters, Rose Reed, Helen Cory, Dorothy Lane and Elizabeth Johnson and a brother, John Reed.
