William "Bill" Swick, 74, of St. Paul, MN died Friday August 12, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Paul, MN from complications of severe COPD.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Robert Ludwig officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Thursday.

William Jay Swick was born on March 21, 1937 in Beaver Dam (Akron), IN the eldest of 8 children born to Dean and Myrtle Swick....a proud Hoosier. Bill graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 1955.

He married Iileen Gjovik in 1959 in Strathcona, MN, whom later passed away in 1987. He retired in 1999 after a 42 year career with MnDOT as Crew Chief/Surveyor.

Bill's hobbies were watching the Twins, doing puzzles, and working on computers. He had fun learning the IPad. He was known for tinkering and fixing things. People were drawn to his knowledge, ingenuity, his strong and steady, reliable character as well as his feisty and playful sense of humor.

Survivors include, Marie Foster of St Paul, MN; daughters, Jolynn Swick of St Paul, MN and Kim (Sonny) Mundell of Port Angeles, WA; granddaughter, Amber Iileen Wigfield of Sequim, WA; Marie's children, Dean (Leichen) Foster of Bloomington, IN, Beth (Leo) Judeh of St Paul, MN, Mike (Ginger) Foster of Osakis, MN, Greg (fiance-Carrie) Foster of Asheville, NC; Marie's Grandchildren, Katie & Brad Foster, Katelyn & Danielle Foster, Ella Judeh; siblings, Joe (Juanita) Swick of Winter Springs, FL, Gerry Anderson of Burnsville, MN, Norma (Les)  Myhrer of Lakeville MN, Kathy Swick of Anchorage, AK, John (Kathy) Swick of Hibbing, MN, Ralph (Sandy) Swick of Grandin, ND, Ray (Tammy) Swick of Thief River Falls, MN ; and best friend, Dave Bailey of St Paul, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iileen Swick; and infant sister, Lovena Swick.
