Obituary

William Roy Wilcox, 90, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Pastor Tom Potter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Friday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

William Roy Wilcox was born on March 18, 1916 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Stewart and Ada (Stewart) Wilcox. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilby, ND. He graduated from Gilby High School in 1934. In 1934, Roy and his family moved to Red Lake Falls and in 1935 he was made manager of David Park Ice Cream Store in Red Lake Falls, a hamburger store was later added.

On November 20, 1941, Roy was united in marriage to Charlotte Chuckie Harris at First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple continued to own and operate the ice cream store and in 1942 Roy entered the United States Army, served in the Signal Corp, on February 5, 1943. He was Honorably Discharged on March 3, 1946 and returned to live in Red Lake Falls. They continued to operate a gas station and ice cream store which evolved in the early 1960s into appliances and furniture. Roy also owned and operated Wilcox Plumbing which he ran until selling the business in 1981 to Bill Moser. Roy also sold the furniture and appliances to John Solheim in 1981. Slowly, he retired over the next few years.

Roy and Chuckie spent 28 winters in Palm Springs and 15 years in Mesa, AZ. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls most of his life, he was a life member of the American Legion in Red Lake Falls, served as chairman of the Red Lake Falls Commercial Club and belonged to Oak Knolls Golf Club. Roy enjoyed stain glass art work and golfing.

Roy is survived by his wife, Charlotte Chuckie Wilcox of Red Lake Falls; nieces and nephews, John Solheim, Sharon Vatthauer, Dave Miller, Charles Wilcox, Nancy Jo Wilcox; sister-in-law, Jeanette Wilcox of Moorhead, MN; and cousin, Bud Wilcox of Gilby, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Ada Wilcox; brother, Clifford Wilcox and niece, Mary Mittelstadt.
