Winton "Swede" Fellman, 91, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Hillcrest Senior Living, Red Lake Falls, MN Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Rev. Rob Kopp from the United Methodist Church will be the presiding clergy. Winton Henry Fellman was born January 21, 1921 in Thief River Falls, MN the youngest of eight children born to John and Hilda (Hendrickson) Fellman. Winton was lovingly known as "Swede" throughout his life. He was baptized and confirmed at the Tarna Lutheran Church near St. Hilaire, MN. Swede attended country school near St. Hilaire, MN and helped on the family farm until enlisting into service with the United States Army. He served in the Galapagos Islands during World War II and was Honorably Discharged. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Swede returned to St. Hilaire, MN and worked at the Champlin Gas Station. He volunteered on the St. Hilaire Volunteer Fire Department and also served as Fire Chief for several years. On April 7, 1960, Winton was united in marriage to Irene Mae Matthew at Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Thief River Falls and raised Helen, Barry, Warren & Shawn. Following their marriage, Swede went to work at Brodin Sheet Metal in Thief River Falls and worked there until his retirement in the early 1980's. Swede was a member of the United Methodist Church where he and Irene cleaned the church; he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles, dogs, cats, babysitting for the Carlson boys, and watching the Minnesota Twins; and he was an excellent handyman. Swede loved visiting with his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their functions. Survivors include children Helen Victor of Duluth, MN, Barry (Nancy) Fellman, Warren (Nancy) Fellman all of Thief River Falls, and Shawn (Lisa) Fellman of Rosemount, MN; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene on April 11, 2006; parents; sisters, Ellen, Ida, Selma, Edith & Avis; brothers, Carl and Harold.
