Zola Ste. Marie 90, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on May 29, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner Officiating.  Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Terrebonne, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Zola Diana Haaland was born August 2, 1926 in Ada, MN, daughter of Oscar and Anna (Ramstad) Haaland. She grew up and attended school in Ada graduating with the class of 1944. After high school Zola moved to Fargo where she worked for Pioneer Mutual Insurance. Through a friend, she was introduced to Donald Ste. Marie, a student at the Agricultural College in Crookston, MN. On April 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Ste. Marie at Terrebonne, MN.

Don and Zola made their home on a farm north of Terrebonne where they raised their six children. Together they raised beef and hogs and farmed small grains. Zola took pride in her beautiful farm yard as well as her vegetable and flower gardens. They were active members of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Terrebonne where she was a member of the choir and church council. They retired from active farming in 1982 and moved into Red Lake Falls, at which time they became members of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Zola was an active community member being a 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Don and Zola received the Valley Farmer and Homemaker Award at the Red River Valley Winter Shows in 1964. They were active in the Farmer's Exchange Program, hosting farmers from Africa and Italy at their farm.

Zola worked part-time at Hillcrest Nursing Home for many years, retiring in 1993. She lovingly cared for many residents over her years of employment at Hillcrest.

Zola is survived by her children Michael (Susan) Ste. Marie of St. Paul, MN, Stephen (Janet) Ste. Marie of Bloomington, MN, Alan (Jeannette) Ste. Marie of Red Lake Falls, MN, David "Joe" (Vicki) Ste. Marie of Red Lake Falls, MN, Kathryn (Michael) Cota of Moorhead, MN, Kenneth (Patty) Ste. Marie of Fargo, ND; 13 Grandchildren Michael (Sarah) Ste. Marie, Christopher Ste. Marie, Melissa (Kirk) Hansen, Erik (Sara) Ste. Marie, Matt (Robin) Ste. Marie, Dominic (Jenae) Ste. Marie, Jill (Alex) Dowdle, Kelli (Andy) Brateng, Chad (Shawn) Ste. Marie, Chad (Memory) Cota, Rachel (Derek) Gagner, Michaela Ste. Marie, and Mackenzie Ste. Marie; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Sandra Hausten; sisters-in-law Eraine Schmit, Lucy Higgins, Carole Vammen, and brother-in-law Barney Ste. Marie.

She is preceded in death by her husband Donald on October 26, 1998, parents, sister Flo Volkerding, brother Noel Haaland, brothers-in-law Cliff Volkerding, Donald Hausten, Reaume Ste. Marie, Lawrence Korman, Walter Schmit, Alver Mehr, Jim Higgins, and Floyd Vammen, sisters-in-law Isabelle Korman, Elise Ste. Marie, Harriet Mehr, Alyce Ste. Marie, Pat Ste. Marie, and nephew Greg Volkerding.

In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
