Obituary

Laurie Duden of rural Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by her loving family at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Gary Graff Officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery near Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday 4 – 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service and also one hour prior to the service all at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Laurie Jean Duden was born daughter of Woodrow and Harriet (Vinge) Wilson in Red Lake Falls, MN on September 13, 1965. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Laurie attended Red Lake Falls schools and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1983. She attended the University of Minnesota Crookston for a time and then transferred to Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in teaching and early childhood development education.

Her working career consisted of working at RBJ's as a waitress in Crookston and Kmart in Fargo during her college years. After graduation she worked at the Early Childhood Family Education in Fisher, MN and Crookston, MN school systems. Laurie worked for the Catholic School in Mahnomen, MN, later she gained employment at Red Lake County Central School as a kindergarten teacher and later changing to higher elementary grades.

On July 3, 1993 Laurie was united in marriage to Perry Duden at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. They moved to a farm outside of Red Lake Falls. To this union three children were born William, Emma and Jake.

Laurie will be remembered as a kind, caring, compassionate, humorous and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed teaching children and cared deeply about their lives beyond the classroom.

She was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, helped with communion and smorgasbord at Bethany church.

Some of her favorite activities were attending her children's sports activities, decorating her home, gardening, horseback riding, fishing and going to craft sales. She enjoyed her pet cats and dogs.

Laurie is survived by her husband Perry, children William (April Mata) Duden of Fargo, ND, Emma Duden and Jake Duden of Red Lake Falls, MN; siblings Dr. Warren (Marilyn) Wilson of Mount Horab, WI, Janice Bolstad of Champlin, MN, Darlene Mickelson of Maple Grove, MN, Fr. Richard Wilson of North Augusta, SC, Byron Wilson of Red Lake Falls, MN, Scott Wilson of Lacey, WA, Kathleen Schultz of Crookston, MN and Renae (Steve) Phillip of Red Lake Falls, MN; mother-in-law Mildred Duden of Thief River Falls, MN, brothers and sisters-in-law Virginia Duden, Monica Duden, Laura (Tony) Rubischko, Sandra (Mark) Claeys, Rose (Dave) Colby, Rodney (Jody) Duden and Brad (Vicki) Duden; along with many nieces and nephews.

Laurie is preceded in death by her parents Woodrow and Harriet Wilson, brothers-in-law Timothy Pahlen, Mark Henderson, Jerry Schultz; sister-in-law Arlene Wilson; nephew Brian Wilson; father-in-law Roger Duden; and Ronnie Freyholtz, special friend to Mildred Duden.
