On November 17, 1951, Tony was born to Donald and Marlene (Drees) Johnson in Crookston, MN. He lived in St. Hilaire and attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1969. He married Judy Canard and had a son, Tracy. Tony began driving for LB Hartz company, delivering groceries throughout the region. Tony married Diane Jehlicka and had two sons, Cory and Trent. For the last 30+ years, Tony lived and worked in the Fargo/Moorhead area.
Tony was a "stand-out" athlete in high school, competing in football, baseball and basketball. His drive to compete continued through his adult years as a fastpitch softball player. Looking up to their dad, Tracy, Cory and Trent quickly learned the joy athletics could provide. Tony loved attending his sons' high school and collegiate sporting events and has been a continued supporter of the Moorhead High School and Concordia College athletic programs. For the last few years, Tony wintered in Arizona and enjoyed spending time in the sun with friends and family. Tony was a loving grandpa to his three grandchildren and enjoyed nothing more than telling stories with one of them on his knee and watching them grow. Working hard every day was important to Tony and passing on that work ethic to his sons is something he was proud of.
Tony is survived by three sons-Tracy, Houston, TX, Cory (Molly), Minneapolis, MN, and Trent (Eman), Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren—Mustafa, Maryam, and Hallie; mother, Marlene, St. Hilaire, MN; siblings-Polly, Terry, Kim, Degee, Todd (Sue), and Tammy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, father Donald, step-father Kenneth Ortloff, and sister Mary. We will lovingly remember Tony and know he is now reunited with Diane.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cullen Children's Foundation.
May God bless his memory.
