About Us

Our funeral home is a family owned and operated business. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve.

Olger Green started the Green Funeral Home in Newfolden, MN. His son, Orin joined his father in the family business in 1954 and established the business in Thief River Falls. They operated the funeral home at 321 North Main until 1964 when they moved into a newly constructed funeral home at its current location at 420 North LaBree Avenue. In 1971, Gordon Peterson joined the Green family and became a partner with Orin until 1991 when Orin retired. Gordon continued to operate the business until 2001 when he sold to Eric and Erling Johnson and the name was changed to Johnson-Green Funeral Service. We feel honored and blessed to serve families at our funeral home locations in Thief River Falls and Oklee, MN.

A note about our horse drawn hearse: Johnson Funeral Home in Parshall, North Dakota which was operated by Jim & Carol Johnson, purchased the hearse and the Hoger family of Judson, North Dakota restored the hearse in 1985 for the funeral home. The hearse was originally found in a garage in Sand Point, Idaho in very poor condition. It was originally built in the late 1700's or early 1800's and used for the octagon caskets of that era. The restored hearse has all of the original parts except two boards were added for height and width to accommodate a modern casket and new gas lanterns were added as the original ones were stolen. It is in a display building on the north side of the Thief River Falls funeral home.
